Enter The Collage

Ex-Nihilo ii is a surreal explorative platformer in which you play as a telepathic caped figure in a psychic dream realm. Explore The Collage, a digital dreamscape created by a group of telepathic renegades known as the Mesh Network. Explore this vast dreamscape and learn about your telepathic powers with the help of your crew. When a hacker threatens to destroy The Collage, you must use your abilities to save it.

This group exhibition by APOCATECA at Los Angeles Digital Center for Digital Art featured Ex-Nihilo ii housed in a Mesoamerican pyramid arcade cabinet and video excerpts from the world.

Game collaborations include 3d models by Paul Plastic, Ian Glauco, and Jocelin Valencia. Level collaboration with MDAP, score and music and sound design by Nathaniela Eras.

Ex-Nihilo i

EX NIHILO is a videogame created by Derek Holguin for the art exhibit "Minor Gaps Between," which opened at Human Resources Gallery on January 20th, 2024 in Los Angeles. The game is an explorable world made of distorted alternate HR galleries through a digitized portal of Los Angeles.

You play as a faceless caped figure, jumping, flying, and teleporting around the environment made of collaged elements sampled from Los Angeles from the focal point of HR. This reflects an abstracted landscape of cacophonic symphony of locations and symbols mirroring myself in late 2023 - early 2024.
